The Holland Manufacturing Company of Baltimore was a historic industrial landmark and the last major tack and nail manufacturer in the United States.
Founded: Established in 1890 by Franklin Holland at 1300 Bank Street in Baltimore\'s Little Italy neighborhood (at Bank Street and Central Avenue).Products: Famously known locally as the \"Tack Factory,\" it produced tons of brads, tacks, nails, and carpet tacks sold in iconic bright blue and yellow pasteboard boxes featuring a windmill logo.
Cultural Impact: For roughly 90 years, Holland fasteners were used in major league baseballs, school bulletin boards, and furniture upholstery throughout Baltimore and nationwide.
Building Evolution: Before housing the tack factory, the historic site served as a Confederate hospital for wounded soldiers during the Civil War.
