Description
This is a vintage IBPOEW Elks sterling silver lapel pin — an elk head with an enamelled eleventh-hour clock — still on its original retail card.
The blue and white enamel is complete and the blue letter fill in the collar is unbroken, which is unusual on a pin this age.

- Pin approximately 0.75 x 0.75 in
- Ships at about 3 oz blue and white on the clock dial full and unchipped
- Collar: blue letter fill complete
- Casting: crisp; antlers all present and unbent
- Silver: darkened in the recesses, slight discoloration due to age
- Back: post and retainer present and functional
- Card: age-toned with edge wear and a crease

Markings
The elk's collar is enamelled "IBPOEW". The original retail card is printed "STERLING SILVER" — that card, not a stamp on the pin, is the metal evidence, and no hallmark was found on the pin itself.
About this item
IBPOEW is the Improved Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks of the World, the historically African American Elks order founded in 1898 and a separate organisation from the BPOE. The clock reading the eleventh hour is the order's signature emblem.
