ABSOLUTELY STUNNING MID-CENTURY JAPANESE ART POTTERYThis is one of those vintage pieces that is dramatically better in person than the typical examples of this form.Featuring a proud Boxer mother with five puppies, this large sculptural ashtray/display dish combines whimsical 1950s Japanese design with an absolutely gorgeous glaze treatment.The glaze is what makes this one special.The center explodes in a beautiful aqua-blue, seafoam and cream pearlescent glaze, with feathered crystalline patterns radiating outward from deep chocolate and bronze tones. It has a luminous, almost mother-of-pearl appearance that shifts beautifully as the light moves across it.Surrounding the center is a deep, glass-like chocolate brown high-gloss glaze, accented by the sculpted openwork design of the tray.Then there are the dogs.The adult Boxer and all five puppies are individually sculpted and painted, with wonderful little facial details, dark muzzles and expressive features.
