This exceptional set of six vintage Japanese Kaiseki trays is a pristine example of traditional urushi lacquer craftsmanship, presented in its original signed paulownia (kiribako) box. Each tray features a deep black mirror-finish lacquer with a subtle vermillion-red border, showcasing the timeless elegance of Japanese dining and tea ceremony presentation.
The box lid bears the hand-brushed inscription “懐石盆” (Kaiseki-bon), meaning “Kaiseki Tray,” along with the artisan’s handwritten signature and red seal — confirming its authenticity as a handcrafted piece from a lacquerware studio.
Each tray is made from natural wood (天然木) and finished with true urushi lacquer (うるし塗装), verified by the original Japanese Household Goods Quality Labeling Act certification tag (SK–HI0005) found on several wrappers. This official label guarantees that these are genuine urushi pieces, not synthetic lacquer imitations — a hallmark of fine Japanese craftsmanship.
