Vintage metal Polled Dorsets sheep farm/breeder sign associated with Jesse Holtzman of Westgate, Iowa.
Research indicates Jesse Floyd Holtzman was a Fayette County, Iowa sheep farmer and breeder who became well known for his work with sheep and later for helping introduce Finn sheep to Iowa. This sign appears to be from his farming operation and reads:
POLLED DORSETS
JESSE HOLTZMAN
WESTGATE, IA
Heavy steel construction with an attached mounting foot/base. Approximately 15 inches wide and roughly 16 inches tall based on the photos.
Condition is heavily weathered and distressed from outdoor use. Significant surface rust, paint loss, cracking/peeling of the sheep graphic, scratches, oxidation, and general age wear throughout. The original aged condition gives it a great authentic farm/primitive look. Please review all photos closely for exact condition.
