VINTAGE JOHN-RICHARD COLLECTION SOLID WOOD DECORATIVE BOX – MADE IN INDIA
Beautiful and substantial vintage decorative box from the John-Richard Collection, handcrafted in India.
This is a very nicely made, stout solid-wood box featuring an exceptionally ornate exterior with intricate floral and geometric decoration. The lid has a beautiful central floral design surrounded by an elaborate hand-decorated border, while the sides feature extensive raised/relief-style decorative work.
The original "JOHN RICHARD COLLECTION / MADE IN INDIA" label is still attached to the underside.
The exact manufacturing date is unknown, but based on the John-Richard Collection labeling and style, this appears to be a vintage piece, likely dating to the late 20th century.
CONDITION:
This is a vintage piece with noticeable cosmetic wear from age and use. The dark finish on the wood has scratches, scuffs, nicks, dings and areas of finish wear, particularly along the edges and raised portions of the box. Please see the photographs carefully for examples of the wear.
The intricate painted and decorative elements, however, remain in very good overall condition and retain a tremendous amount of their original detail and character.
This would be a wonderful piece for someone who appreciates vintage handcrafted Indian decorative arts. It could certainly be enjoyed exactly as it is, or it would make an excellent refinishing/restoration project for someone who wants to refresh the dark wood finish while preserving the beautiful original decorative work.
