Beautiful vintage hand-carved Kashmiri walnut wood jewelry / trinket box featuring intricate high-relief decoration of birds among scrolling vines, multi-lobed leaves, and flowers. Several small red inlays (glass or stone) highlight the birds’ eyes and berry details.
The box has a distinctive curved solid-wood handle integrated into the side, brass hinges, and a simple latch. The interior has a deep rectangular compartment with scalloped edges and decorative carving on the underside of the lid.
Solid walnut wood with a warm natural patina. Carving is crisp and detailed. Normal light surface wear is consistent with age and use. Possible repair on underside of handle and small chip on lid. At first, I thought the chip was by design because it makes it easier to open the box, but I don\'t think that is the case.
Locking mechanism with keyhole in front. No key and not tested.
This is a classic example of traditional Kashmiri woodcarving, known for its fine undercut foliage and bird motifs. Perfect as a jewelry box, keepsake box, or decorative display piece.
