This is a vintage empty box for Kaucky\'s Home Aid Tablets, packed by Kaucky\'s Pharmacy of Berwyn, Illinois. The box is a sliding style with the label printed on the outer sleeve, and it advertises relief of pain due to headache, colds, neuralgia and rheumatism. The listed active ingredients are acetphenetidin, acetylsalicylic acid and caffeine. Only the empty box is included, with no tablets or contents.
A nice small piece for collectors of vintage pharmacy and drugstore packaging.
Fun fact: This combination of acetphenetidin, aspirin and caffeine was known in the pharmaceutical trade as an APC compound, and it was one of the most common over the counter pain relief formulas in America for much of the 20th century. Acetphenetidin, better known as phenacetin, stayed on the market for nearly a hundred years before studies linking it to kidney damage and cancer led the FDA to order it off shelves in 1983, which is why small drugstore pharmacies like Kaucky\'s are no longer packaging tablets like these today.
