Vintage Klauber Brothers Black Lace Fabric 59/61\" Wide 3+ Yards Pattern 910006

A remarkable large-format vintage Klauber Brothers black lace textile, retaining its original mill/sample identification tag and offering an unusually generous amount of continuous material for couture sewing, costume design, restoration, collecting, or textile study.

The original attached tag identifies the textile as Klauber Brothers, Inc., New York, Pattern No. 910006, color Black, width 59/61 inches, original quantity 3.00 yards, composition code 100N, and an original wholesale price of $4.5000 per yard. The surviving identification is especially valuable because it connects the textile directly to a documented American lace house rather than leaving its manufacturer or pattern attribution unknown.

Klauber Brothers is a longstanding American lace company whose heritage dates to 1859. The company describes its work as encompassing both traditional and modern lace construction, including Leavers, Chantilly, Raschel, rigid and stretch laces. Its history and continued specialization in fine lace make the surviving Klauber identification an appealing feature for collectors of American fashion textiles, vintage sewing materials and historic lace.

Textile & Pattern

This exceptionally lightweight lace is constructed in deep black with an extremely open, transparent character. Rather than a conventional floral pattern, the design is composed of continuous undulating feather, leaf and flame-like forms arranged in rhythmic vertical and diagonal movement.

Fine linear threads define the sweeping contours while tiny open spaces and regularly distributed point-like details provide texture within the motifs. The pattern appears almost graphic when laid flat against a contrasting background, yet becomes substantially richer and darker when gathered or layered.

The lace has a remarkably fluid visual quality. Long sinuous lines seem to flow through the fabric, creating an elegant Art Deco-to-mid-century feeling that would work particularly well in garments designed around movement and drape. Because the pattern extends across the field rather than relying upon a single dominant border motif, substantial sections can be cut while retaining the character of the original design.

When suspended, the lace falls into soft, cascading folds and retains considerable transparency. Multiple layers produce dramatic tonal depth, ranging from nearly transparent charcoal-black to saturated black. This makes it particularly suitable for designs using contrast linings, layered construction or strategic transparency.

Original Klauber Brothers Identification

The original tag reads:

  • Manufacturer: Klauber Brothers, Inc., New York
  • Pattern No.: 910006
  • Color: Black
  • Original width: 59/61\"
  • Original yardage: 3.00 yards
  • Original price: $4.5000 per yard
  • Composition code: 100N

The tag is an important part of the textile\'s provenance and will be included with the lace.

Klauber Brothers remains an established lace specialist today and states that most of its designs originate from internally developed artwork. The company also maintains a collection encompassing multiple specialized lace constructions.

Measurements

Quantity: One continuous piece
Approximate usable width: 2 yards / 72 inches
Approximate usable length: 3 yards 17 inches / 125 inches
Approximate usable area: more than 6.9 square yards
Actual textile weight: 7.3 oz

The current usable dimensions are larger than the 59/61\" width shown on the vintage tag in one direction; because the remnant has previously been cut and its orientation may differ from the original mill presentation, the physical usable measurements above should be used when planning a project.

Color

Black. The lace presents as a classic deep black. Its exceptionally sheer construction naturally appears lighter or charcoal-toned when photographed as a single layer against white, while folded and overlapping sections become substantially darker.

Potential Uses

Its generous dimensions and extraordinarily light construction make this vintage lace particularly attractive for couture evening gowns, overlays, sleeves, sheer panels, lingerie, bridal accessories, veils, shawls, theatrical and period costume, dancewear, fashion archives, textile collections, millinery, display, mixed-media textile art and restoration projects.

Condition

Vintage textile in very good overall condition for its age, retaining its original Klauber Brothers identification tag. As a delicate vintage lace remnant, minor age- or storage-related irregularities, loose threads, pulls or small imperfections may be present. The material has previously been cut and the ends/edges should not be expected to be perfectly uniform. Please examine the detailed photographs closely for the exact present condition and pattern construction.

Note: Colors may vary slightly due to lighting and screen settings. Please review all photos carefully as they are part of the description.

This listing is for vintage lace remnant(s). The piece(s) has (have) been previously hand-cut and is (are) not perfectly rectangular or uniformly cut along all edges. Measurements represent the approximate usable area, rather than the maximum dimensions of every projecting, scalloped or irregularly cut section.
