Vintage Mayan Tapestry Crochet Wool Bolsita Miniature Coin Purse 3" Folk Art 50s For Sale

This is an authentic indigenous textile from the Western Highlands of Guatemala crafted around the 1950s. The coin purse is a miniature 3-inch pocket pouch, bolsita, and is a stellar example of traditional Mayan tapestry crochet, created before the artisan markets transitioned to mass commercial production. It is made from authentic hand-spun wool and has a "hairy" texture. It has no zipper and uses instead a traditional double-sided seamless pocket structure with a small, unlined top slip opening that folds over to hold coins safely when tucked into a woven waist sash, faja. It features a perfectly mirrored geometric starburst motif on both sides. This item is museum quality. My parents purchased it at least 60 or 70 years ago.
