Offered here is a set of vintage U.S. Senior Glider Pilot wings by N.S. Meyer Inc. of New York, still mounted on the original blue-and-white “Meyer Insignia, Insignia Specialists Since 1868” retail card with the Meyer “Armed Forces Equipment” shield logo and © N.S. Meyer Inc. mark.
The badge has the classic WWII-pattern glider design: a shield with a raised “G” set between fully feathered, swept wings, and the star above the shield that marks the senior rating. The finish is a bright silver tone with crisp feather detail and a lined field behind the “G.” The badge is held to the card by two brass butterfly clutch backs.
About the era: glider pilot wings were a WWII Army Air Forces rating, and the glider program ended in the years after the war. This one is a later Meyer production rather than a wartime piece. The card style, with its registered-mark shield logo, and the twin clutch-back fastening both point to postwar manufacture, most likely the 1960s through 1980s. Meyer made these for veterans, reunion groups, and collectors. It is a nice chance to own a factory-carded example from one of the most respected American insignia makers. It’s a great display piece for a WWII glider, airborne, or Army Air Forces collection, or a meaningful gift for the family of a glider veteran.
