These clever little figural shakers feature two characters in one. Turn them around and the bride and groom transform into an entirely different couple—the woman in her yellow shawl and blue skirt and the gentleman in his suspenders and tie. Such a wonderfully kitschy piece of vintage Japanese novelty ceramics.
The bride carries a bouquet of pink flowers with delicate gold accents on her gown, while the groom is dressed formally and holds his black top hat. The reverse sides have softer pastel coloring and equally sweet hand-painted facial details. Both sit on round bases with gold trim.
One shaker retains its original Nikoniko China / Made in Japan foil label on the bottom, which is a great detail for collectors.
Condition: Good vintage condition considering their age. There is crazing throughout the glazed surfaces, consistent with age, along with some expected light wear to the painted and gold details. Please review all photos closely, as they are part of the condition description.
Approximately 5 inches tall based on the ruler shown in the photos.
A really unusual set for collectors of vintage Japanese ceramics, anthropomorphic/figural salt & pepper shakers, wedding collectibles, kitschy kitchenware, or mid-century novelty pieces.
