An exceptionally unusual and highly decorative Soviet-era presentation key dedicated to the city of Odessa, Ukraine, preserved together with its original fitted presentation case.
The large metal key is designed as a symbolic “Key to Odessa”, richly decorated with classic Soviet imagery and monumental architectural styling.
At the top is the inscription “ОДЕССА” (ODESSA) surrounding a stylized spire, while the ornamental composition includes a five-pointed Soviet star, hammer and sickle, and laurel elements. The long geometric shaft gives the piece a particularly elegant, almost architectural appearance reminiscent of Soviet monumental and Stalinist Empire design.
The original presentation box is itself remarkable. Its exterior bears an embossed historical Soviet-era emblem of Odessa featuring a ship, star and anchor. Inside, the key rests on deep dark-blue velvet, creating a beautiful ceremonial presentation.
The key measures approximately 15.5–16 cm / about 6.1–6.3 inches long, as shown in the photographs.
This was clearly conceived not as an ordinary household object but as a symbolic presentation or commemorative souvenir. Pieces of this type may have been produced for official presentations, commemorative events, honored guests or institutional gifts during the Soviet period; however, the exact original recipient and occasion are unknown.
The survival of both the key and its original fitted case makes this example especially attractive for collectors.

Condition
Very good vintage condition considering its age.
The key retains an attractive warm golden finish with light age-related surface wear and patina. The original case shows normal signs of storage and age, including wear to the exterior and velvet lining.
