Charming vintage Paulux porcelain teacup marked “Made in Occupied Japan,” dating the cup to 1947–1952, paired with an unmarked vintage saucer in a very closely coordinating red-and-gold colorway.
The cup features a delicate romantic Rococo- inspired/pastoral figural scene, rich coral-red band, gold lattice-style decoration, gold trim, pedestal foot, and ornate scroll handle. The saucer has an almost exact coral-red band with gold accents and a softly fluted rim.
Please note: I do not believe the cup and saucer were necessarily manufactured as an original set. The cup has glossy fired decoration, while the red decoration on the unmarked saucer has a noticeably more matte, dry-feeling surface and shows age-related paint loss. Because this is a married set, the cup’s foot rests on the raised beaded ring surrounding the saucer’s cup well rather than nesting fully inside it. It remains stable for display but is a slightly less secure fit than an originally matched cup and saucer. They nevertheless make a very attractive married display set, with the red tones coordinating unusually well.
Condition: Vintage condition with expected age-related wear to the gold decoration. The saucer shows wear/flaking to the red painted band and a visible scratch/loss through the red decoration, as shown in the photos. Cup presents nicely. Please examine all photos closely for condition.
