Vintage Royal Caledonian Curling Club (RCCC) dated 1950 curling pin is in overall very nice condition, with minor surface wear commensurate with age. There is a stamp mark on back Kirkwood & Son, Edinburgh. This is an exceptional beautifully crafted high quality enamel and brass pin with royal crown, curling stone, blue and white Scottish flag, Scottish lion in shield, fully surrounded by thistle.
Alexander Kirkwood & Son's founder began in a workshop just off the Royal Mile in Edinburgh. He founded the business in 1826 and has made medals ever since. Alexander Kirkwood & Son is now one of Scotland’s oldest family-run businesses and continues its trade as a medalist, silversmith, engraver and trophy maker to some of the world’s most famous and celebrated institutions and organizations. Over the two centuries, the business has continued to make dies and then strike some of the rarest and greatest medals ever produced. One of the most famous die is the solid silver die created for the seal for stamping the Great Seal of Scotland. The Seal is attached to official Scottish documents to confer royal assent by the reigning Monarch and is believed to date back to 1094.
