Vintage Rutgers University Honor Society pin/fob, 1970s. Gold-plated (10K)
Personalized on the reverse with the recipient’s engraved initials “J.C.C.” (my father) and the year “72-73” (1972-1973 academic year).
Front features a raised “HONOR SOCIETY” design in a repeating textured field, surrounding an “R” representing Rutgers University, where my father earned this pin.
Construction: loop at top (suitable for a watch fob or chain) plus a stick-pin style post on the back with a separate detachable ball/dome clutch closure, so it can also be worn as a lapel or tie pin.
Metal disclosure: No karat hallmark or maker’s mark is present anywhere on the piece. Home acid scratch testing (performed twice on two different days and two different stones) reacted consistent with 10K gold at the surface, but this only confirms the surface layer — I’m listing this as gold-plated/gold-tone rather than solid gold, since there’s no way to verify solid gold content without a hallmark or professional assay.
