This was a fun research project! And still I got it wrong! Sold to me as an inkwell, a kind person reached out to let us know this is a spirit burner/camp stove.
This is a Sigg spirit burner. It appears to be complete with the correct top, the burner, and a visible wick which can be seen through the cut outs at the bottom of the reservoir. (See photos.) This is a camp stove which can be filled with spirit, ignited, and which will heat and/or keep warm a pan. A mechanism for holding the pot is NOT included with this item.
The Sigg logo is stamped on the top and the word \"Sigg\" is etched onto the bottom. According to my research, this is the newest version of this burner and dates from 1947 forward.
The well is fixed inside of a squashed onion shape. I believe this to be brass. However, we did not clean and polish this item. The lucky buyer can keep it as it is or polish it to a fine glow. Either way it is in excellent used condition and hardly shows its more than half century of wear. It is 3 3/4\" in diameter and stands about 2\" high.
Included with this little stove is a small brass bottle/container with s screw on lid. It is unmarked and was sold to me as an ink bottle. I think, though, that it might have held the fuel for a camp stove like this one.
