Vintage Tilly\'s Restaurant Menu Haynes Hotel Springfield Massachusetts
Tilly\'s Restaurant occupied a storefront in the Haynes Hotel block at 1386-1402 Main Street in Springfield, the five-story Italianate building put up in 1864 for Theodore \"Tilly\" Haynes, a men\'s clothing merchant who rebuilt after fire destroyed his earlier store and ran both his shop and a hotel inside it. Opened in 1865, it was among the largest hotels in the city and was known for a grand central lobby lit by a skylight, before being eclipsed by the Hotel Charles nearer the railroad station. Haynes sold the property in 1876, and in 1943 the old hotel lobby was converted to retail space with offices on the floors above. The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on February 24, 1983, cited for commerce and architecture as one of Springfield\'s last surviving Italianate commercial blocks.
