The M1 steel helmet was the helmet of the American soldier from 1941 until the mid-1980s, through World War II, Korea and Vietnam. It is a two-part system: a steel outer shell, and a separate fiber liner with its own suspension that can be worn alone.
This one has the swivel chinstrap loops (bails) that replaced the fixed loops in 1943, a knotted camouflage net over the shell, and a resin-impregnated fiber liner of the WWII/Korea type, with an aged khaki nape strap and a brown leather liner chinstrap.
Please note, this is a RESTORED helmet: the shell has been repainted, and the liner webbing and leather sweatband are newer replacement parts. We have not lifted the net to check the seam or heat stamp, so we are not dating it more precisely. A great display piece for a WWII/Korea-era impression or a veteran's shelf.
