Born in Newark, NJ, Robert Edwin Brinckmann served as a pilot with the 34th Tactical Fighter Squadron out of Korat Airbase, Thailand. On November 4, 1966, he was piloting an F-105F Thunderchief on a highly dangerous anti-radar mission over North Vietnam. His aircraft was struck by anti-aircraft artillery approximately 60 miles northeast of Hanoi. Due to heavy enemy presence, immediate recovery was impossible and he was listed as Missing in Action (MIA). A highly decorated pilot, he earned the Silver Star and the Distinguished Flying Cross with Two Oak Leaf Clusters. In 1989, his remains were repatriated and identified. He was posthumously promoted to Colonel and is buried in Arlington National Cemetery.
