Up for sale is a wonderful piece of California industrial history: an authentic, vintage 1940s Security Mail and Bank Money Transport Bag manufactured by the renowned C.A. Hoffman & Son out of Arlington, California.
This heavy-duty pouch was built to securely transport currency, gold bullion, or highly classified documents between banks, post offices, and corporate hubs. It features a thick, rugged cream-colored canvas body framed with robust, natural-tanned leather accents. The top leather collar is boldly stamped with the crisp, highly legible original maker's mark: "C.A. HOFFMAN & SON MFRS. ARLINGTON CAL."
Design Elements:
• Sturdy top-grain leather carrying handle attached via durable metal loops.
• Integrated metal locking loop configuration designed to accept a vintage padlock or lead security seal.
• Central black leather-trimmed window pouch with a snap-button closure, historically used for paper routing tags or address labels.
• Folded bottom edge with heavy industrial stitching for structural reinforcement.
Condition:
This bag is in good, structurally sound vintage condition with fantastic, authentic character. The canvas shows a wonderful, light age-appropriate patina with minor cosmetic smudges and light staining from genuine historical use (please see photos). The leather is supple with no dry rotting, major cracking, or structural failures. The stitching remains tight throughout. Perfect for collectors, historical displays, or high-end industrial farmhouse decor!
