**Item Description:**
For your consideration is a beautiful, vintage Canadian Inuit art sculpture depicting a stylized Arctic sled dog (Qimmiq). This authentic piece was hand-carved by the renowned master artist Lucassie Echalook from the historic artistic community of Inukjuak (formerly Port Harrison), located on the eastern coast of Hudson Bay in the Nunavik region of Arctic Quebec.
**Material & Artistry:**
The figure is hand sculpted from a highly desirable, colorful piece of variegated green serpentine stone. The premium stone boasts striking natural character, blending deep forest greens with beautiful translucent patches and warm, golden-yellow veining that catches the light elegantly. Echalook brings the stone to life using his signature stylized aesthetic—featuring robust, heavy-set proportions, clean geometric contours, and an expressive face that captures the enduring spirit of the Arctic working dog.
**Authenticity & Hand-Tooling:**
The underside of the sculpture features the artist's authentic hand-incised syllabic signature alongside his official Canadian government disc identification number, E9-1648, firmly establishing its cultural provenance. The base and lower edges retain wonderful, visible hand-tooling and rasp marks left behind by the artist during the shaping process. These raw, texturized tooling marks offer an intimate look at the traditional carving process and beautifully contrast with the smooth, polished finish of the main dog figure.
**Estimated Age & Condition:**
Based on the stylistic choices, the stone selection, and the presence of the E-number disc registry, this carving is estimated to date from the **1970s to the 1980s**—a highly collectible era for Nunavik stone sculpture. It remains in excellent vintage condition with no cracks, structural breaks, or post-quarry damage.
