Original circa 1946 Peiping, China GI souvenir belt buckle, dating to the immediate post-WWII American military presence in North China. Cast metal buckle depicts the Temple of Heaven, globe surmounted by an eagle and radiating sun design, with raised "PEIPING CHINA 1946" and "VICTORY" lettering.
These locally made souvenir buckles are documented in several versions for American servicemen stationed in Peiping, Tientsin and Tsingtao during the postwar period. Peiping is the historical English name for present-day Beijing.
Approximately 2¼" wide × 1¾" high. Original buckle hardware remains attached. Substantial age-related patina, oxidation, surface wear and discoloration throughout, as photographed. Uncleaned. The dark patina highlights the historical engravings and sunburst rays.
A fascinating piece of post-WWII China Station / American military souvenir history.
