Lot of 2 Original Post-WWII Jewish Displaced Persons (DP) Documents – UNRRA & IRO (Bavaria, Germany, c. 1946-1949).
A highly significant and emotive pair of original documents issued to Jewish survivors (She'erit Hapletah) living in Germany after the Second World War. Interestingly, both documents reflect refugees who were living privately outside the camps but still reliant on international aid.
1. UNRRA Ration Certificate (Team 116, Hof-Saale, Bavaria)
Issued to: Abraham Tyras (DP Registration No. WB G-09123).
Content: Bilingual (English/German) card explicitly stating: "The owner of this card is a JEWISH DISPLACED PERSON living privately and is receiving rations from UNRRA; he probably will be in possession of foodstuff of American origin coming from Red Cross parcels..."
Markings: Bears the circular purple handstamp of the United Nations Relief and Rehabilitation Administration (UNRRA Team 116).
Condition: Shows staple/pin holes with rust stains on the margins, typical of official documents attached to files or ration books.
2. PCIRO Certificate of IRO Eligibility (Munich, April 4, 1949)
Issued to: Henek Rakocz (born 28.2.1922).
Content: Confirms his nationality as "Pol. Jew" (Polish Jew). Stamped "NOT CAMP CARE - KEINE LAGERBETREUUNG".
Details: The reverse lists his accompanied family members: his wife Luba and his infant son Michael-Heim (born Aug 1948).
Markings: Hand-signed by the Control Center Officer with the circular stamp of the Munich Luitpold Kaserne Control Center.
Condition: Features a central vertical fold and light age toning.
These are powerful primary sources documenting the administration and daily survival of Jewish refugees in post-war Europe.
