The "fireman" is identified as W. E. Coffee (or perhaps W. E. Coppel?) plus he's further identified on the verso as being "Marvin's Fireman," presuming MARVIN was his boss.
One can easily read "Birmingham Alabama" on the boiler and further evidence shows that this photo was taken at the Smith Gin Manufacturing Company in the Avondale neighborhood of Birmingham Alabama. (see scan # 7)
Smith was one of the biggest manufacturers of cotton gins in the United States.
