This was acquired by my Father approximately 50-60 years ago, from the descendants of the original owner. It was wrapped in what appeared to be a military coat/jacket of some kind, which disinigrated into dusty tatters. Some of the material imprinted onto the sword, leaving a surface discoloration. There are pictures showing the discoloration before and then after, I took a damp paper towel and rubbed most of it off of the larger spot.
The sword measures 46" sheathed.There are no holes or nicks to the blade itself - there are some scrapes (expected) at the end of the drag.
This sword was worn during the Morea Expedition/Confrontation, c1829-30. It has the Klingenthal manufacturer markings on the blade spine with the date 1828 - I cannot make out the month mark (February, maybe?) with stamped markings at blade base and handle, with the matching numbers 1296 on both the sword and scabbard.
My Dad died in '95, and I am just now opening and unpacking parcels and boxes from him and my Mom. Sadly, they did not mark down who they acquired most of this from.
