So, we get out the tools and fuss, cuss and fettleuntil we arrive at what we asked for in the beginning, andafter some years of playing this frustrating game, we havebecome resigned to the idea that something will mostassuredly be lost in the translation — although in manycases, the language is ostensibly the same.Imagine our surprise, then, when we encountered amotorcycle that is so well suited to the U.S. market thatwe’d swear it had been designed in this country. That theNorton 750 Scrambler blends into the American scenelike the aroma of roasting turkey on Thanksgiving day, ishardly a rare and wonderful coincidence: the package wasdeveloped in the Southern California desert in a short butexhaustive six-week program that was conducted to de-buga potentially good hybrid that was feasibly producible frombits and pieces reposing on one firm’s shelves. The newNorton, dubbed the P-11, is the brainchild of Bob Blairof ZDS Motors, Norton-Villiers West Coast Distributor,and is a composite of two of the concern’s more excitingachievements of recent years — the 750cc Norton Atlastwin and the G-85CS chassis.
