Americus Hotel Vintage 1920s Sauce Boat - John Maddock For Sale

Maddock China restaurant ware small sauce boat from The Americus Hotel. The cup is 5 3/4" x 2 1/2" tall at the spout, and 2 7/8" tall at top of handle. An American Indian in headdress is facing right over a shield that contains an urn filled with fruit. The design is rust and blue, and the border is a classic Art Nouveau border of vines, ribbons or tendrils in rust. Scroll down for some historical background of The Americus Hotel.

Good overall condition. English-made restaurant ware is not fully vitrified like American made restaurant ware, and pieces will have a medium gauge weight versus a heftier weight from American manufacturers. Thus the tendency for crazing and porousness. The sauce boat has a couple of clean craze lines and a couple of pin prick glaze pops on the underside dry foot. This piece dates to the 1930's, so given its 90 year-old age, it has survived quite well.
