Beautiful, ornately decorated Victorian glass dome called “Globe de Mariee” also referred to as a Wedding or Marriage dome, featuring a red silk satin button-tufted pillow in the center of the piece surrounded by life-like fabric flowers and leaves adorning either side of the pillow and arching up towards the top of the dome. It is 22 1/2” tall and 15” wide across the base.
Several angular-shaped mirrors are framed in bright gilt metal and alternate in the design entwined around the bridal white and pale blushed floral bouquets. The bridal pillow itself sits upon a fancy gilt metal crown in the center. Very ornate gilt metal scrolls, flowers, and leaves further accentuate the interior, the most lavish of which is the large, gilt-framed, beveled mirror that surmounts the top of the display drawing the eye upwards to a gilded dove with outspread wings and holding a bridal wreath in his beak.
I have had this globe de Mariee in my personal collection for over 20 years. The final touch to this display has to be the small paper doll bride which is 2-dimensional and shows her bridal ensemble. She is not attached within but I have set her upon the tufted red pillow which was her place since this was made. All in all, an exceptionally lavish display.
