AntiqueStumpAnvil
Whether you call it a Stump Anvil, a Post Anvil,a Block Anvil, a Viking Anvil or a Bickern, this tool shows a long history and rustic beauty.
You may want toactually use this as it has been used for years and years and years -- as a Blacksmith\'s anvil. I\'ve seen examples of stump anvils from the Viking Days to the French Indian War, circa 1754-1763.
I\'ve also seenrustic antique anvils at living history events -- where they lend an instant credibility and honesty to presentations of blacksmith shops daily work.
This one has the original timber base that is so well worn over the years. It is beautiful!
I could see someone showing it their house as an object as beautiful in its own way as a fine art sculpture piece.Or dare I say, with the right craftsperson, this old tool could be rendered once again to service; for when the hammer strikes she rings like a bell!
If you love natural old wood, and love antique tools you willappreciate this historic object. It even includes several oxidized nails (please look at our photographs closely)
I don\'t know how old this stump anvil is, but it could be 17th century or older. You just feel such a sense of history and the grace of hard work when you look at it or touch it.
It is just a fabulous object -- at once utilitarian and worthy of a spot in a museum exhibition.
