This handsome timepiece is from my personal collection of clocks curated since 1972.Commencing with apprenticeship to a European master clock and watchmaker through high school graduation, freshmen year of college and remainder of the 1970s, I sensitively restored clocks of all types; opening service and sales showrooms in the western suburbs of Chicago. After a 35 year "sabbatical" pursuing an appraisal career, I've returned to the venerable trade.
Luxor along with Swiss competitors Imhof, Looping and Angelus manufactured the best post WWII jeweled lever alarm, desk and shelf clocks. This is a premier example.Machined of solid brass with satin brushed and polished finishes. Shaped plinth supporting a rectangular case with thick beveled crystal flanked by concave uprights. Matte silvered dial with bold applied markers, pointed hands and alarm indicator easily read at a distance. High-grade eight-day movement with 15-jewel lever escapement. The clock presents handsomely and is in fine operating order.4.3" high, 6" wide, 1.7" deep1.8 lbs.NOTE: I completely disassembled, ultrasonically cleaned and rinsed the movement in waterless solutions, checked for wear, reassembled and lubricated with high-grade Swiss oil. Mainsprings were removed from barrels, cleaned and lubricated with grease. Hands, dial and the crystal were cleaned. The case was refinished and protected from oxidation with clear lacquer. Meticulous restoration should provide reliable operation for years.
