Daniel Renard (b. March 24, 1871, Dragomirești, Dâmbovița, Romania – d. 1954) was a Romanian architect, representative of the Art Nouveau style in Romania.Renard was born in 1871, his mother was Romanian (Petra Ionescu) and his father was Swiss (Prosper Renard).He graduated from the École nationale supérieure des beaux-arts in Paris in the atelier of Julien Guadet, obtaining the diploma of architect in 1900.In the periods 1916-1921 and 1928-1935 he was part of the Committee of the Society of Romanian Architects (SAR).In Constanța, he lived on Romană street, now Revoluției, no. 10. Towards the end of the works at the Casino in Constanta, Renard moves to Bucharest.After the First World War, he was for a while the architect of the technical service of the Ministry of Domains|Ministry of Domains, and between 1922 and 1927 he was active in France, where he designed several buildings (according to the data from the Table of Romanian Architects, Daniel Renard was in Paris in year 1926).The liberal mayor Cristea Georgescu concluded, on July 23, 1903, a contract with the architect Daniel Renard for the design of the new Casino, as a result of some decisions of the Municipal Council.Renard was removed when the conservatives came to power, in 1905. The design of the Casino was then handled by the architect Petre Antonescu, who, in turn, was removed.The return of the liberals to power, between 1907 and 1908, makes Renard reimpose his project, realized in the Art Nouveau style. The foundations of the Casino have been changed three times. It was the largest edifice of this kind in Romania.On December 21, 1909, the engineer Elie Radu and the architects Ion Mincu and Dimitrie Maimarolu were asked to give their opinion on the relaunched Renard Project.
