Olympic Visitor Picture picture collector book, Post Card and German 1936 Berlin Olympics Cigarette Books Two Volume Set- with Dust Jackets -This is an original set of two Berlin Olympics Cigarette Books produced by the Cigaretten Bilderdienst (Cigarette Picture Service) in Hamburg in 1936 to celebrate the Olympic games. These German cigarette books were collected by the German public before World War Two and in the early days of the war. Each album was illustrated with photographs collected by the owner from cigarette packs and then pasted into the album. This particular two album set is titled “Olympia 1936” with a gold embossed bell with eagle and Olympic rings. These books are in large format, measuring approx. 12 inches high (30.48cm) by 9 ½ (24.13cm) inches wide. These books do not have the original dust cover. The blue cloth hardcover on both books is in very good condition. Volume 1 contains 127 pages and shows approx. 175 pasted in photographs, some in color. All photos are intact. There is also a color section of flags from all the countries participating. Of particular interest are some photos of Hitler and famous skater Sonja Henie. The back of the album has a Quadra-fold full color map of the Olympic venue. The map meas. approx. 33 inches (83.82cm) x 12 inches (30.48cm). Volume 2 runs 165 pages and contains 200 pasted in photos, several of which show Jesse Owens. All of these photos are in place. This is an impressive set that covers both summer and winter events.
