Description:Santa Clara Pueblo Pottery Jar, signed Helen Shupla (1928-1985), carved and burnished redware. Signed on base in pencil. 1lb Shupla was of Santa Clara Pueblo and Tohono O'odham (Papago) heritage. She was active as a potter from around the mid-1940s until her death in 1985. Her husband, Kenneth Shupla, was a Hopi carver who moved to Santa Clara when he married. He was mentored as a potter by Helen and began making melon jars in her style. Approx. Measurements:4.25" diameter x 3.125"Condition:Great condition, no chips or cracks, a few minor scuffs to the slip.We have a fine selection of quality items for sale at Amphora Art & Antiques.
