Selling off my two biggest Green River Diplomystus - and this one is the biggest! Known for the finest quality preservation, this specimen was quarried from the ‘18in layer’ of the Green River fossil formation making this fish approximately 51 million years old- Eocene Epoch.
At 18.5in long with a body depth of 6in (not including the dorsal fin) this species doesn’t really get much bigger- this is a beast! No paint or reconstruction needed, this fish was amazingly well preserved! No high gloss coating or stabilizer- this is the natural matte coloring of the skin and bones.
The slab is 21.25in long x 15in high, and due to the size and weight of this specimen the plate is laminated to a solid wood backing- it’s completely stable and ready for hanging or framing.
This is an amazingly big and beautifully prepared fish, sad to let it go but need to make some space for a new project.
**please note, in the photo with 2 fish, the one for sale here is ONLY the one on the RIGHT**
