This listing is for the extra large fossil plate pictured from the famous fossil locality near Socorro, New Mexico. This well-known fossil locality is known for its rich geological history, including marine fossils that can be found in the region. While not being a trained Paleontologist, some of the fossils that I can identify are crinoids, brachiopods, corals, sponges, belemnites and bivalves. Measurements: 10x8=9x.5\" - 5 Lbs

SOCORRO, New Mexico:
The area around Socorro contains sedimentary rocks that date back to the Late Cretaceous period, which is approximately 75 to 70 million years ago. During this time, a shallow sea covered parts of what is now New Mexico. As a result, marine fossils from this period are relatively common in the area. Some other fossils that have been found near Socorro, New Mexico, include:Ammonites: These are extinct, coiled-shelled cephalopods that are related to modern-day squids and octopuses. Ammonites were abundant during the Late Cretaceous, and their fossils are often found in the sedimentary rocks of the region.Inoceramus: These are bivalve mollusks that lived in the ancient sea. Fossils of Inoceramus, which resembled large, clam-like shells, can be found in the area.Belemnites: Belemnites were also cephalopods, but they had a straight, bullet-shaped shell. Fossils of belemnites are occasionally discovered in the rocks near Socorro.Gastropods: Various types of snail-like gastropods lived in the Late Cretaceous sea, and their fossilized shells can be found in the region.Brachiopods: Brachiopods are filter-feeding marine organisms that were common in the ancient seas. Fossils of these creatures are present in the sedimentary rocks around Socorro.Foraminifera: Foraminifera are microscopic single-celled organisms with calcareous shells. Their fossils are sometimes found in the rocks and can be examined under a microscope.Invertebrate fossils: Various marine invertebrate fossils, like brachiopods and crinoids, can be found in the sedimentary rocks of the region.Trace fossils: These are not the remains of organisms themselves but evidence of their activities, such as footprints, tracks, and burrows, which can provide valuable information about ancient ecosystems.
