Hopi kachina; well made. A collector's item. The carving is bold and he has very simple clothing.This kachina is part of a collection of my husband’s. His father ran trading posts on the Navajo Nation from approximately 1940 to 1960. Most are in good condition, except where noted. Most have artist’s names on the bottom, with the exception of one or two.
Left-Handed Hunter, orSiyangephoyain Hopi language, carries his gear in his left hand. In dances, he moves with strange bobbings and mincing steps. He does everything backwards. He is dressed pretty simply, with mostly leather clothing and some yarn trim. There are silver-colored buttons on his leggings and clothing, and multi-colored yarn is used as a headpiece and wraps his bow. There are two scratches on his chest, and his left arm has probably been glued back together. Otherwise, in good condition. A smaller kachina, not as nice as this, was listed for $450 on another site. Not signed.
