United Kingdom Royal Marine Artillery Sergeant Thomas Derwood Jordan was born in Bogner on the 20th of February 1878, a former school teacher he enlisted in The Royal Marines Artillery at The Royal Marine Barracks Eastney in Portsmouth on the 25th of April 1895.


After training, he served in many of the capital ships of the day, as part of a gun turret crew. Including the pre-Dreadnought Battleship HMS Colossus, Majestic Class Battleship HMS Magnificent, Majestic Class Battleship HMS Victorious, Peluros Class Armored Cruiser HMS Prometheus, Sovereign Class Battleship HMS Revenge, Warrior Class Cruiser HMS Cochrane & Minotaur Class Cruiser HMS Defence.


He was promoted to Corporal on the 12th of April 1899 and to Sergeant on the 13th of November 1908, he received this medal in 1912, being discharged invalided from The Royal Naval Hospital Hasler the same year.

INFORMATION:


King George V succeeded to the throne on 6 May 1910. Two versions of obverse were awarded during his reign, both with raised rims. The first version shows the King in Admiral's uniform, facing left and inscribed "GEORGIVS V BRITT: OMN: REX ET IND: IMP:" around the perimeter. non-swivelling bar suspensions, attached to the medal with a single-toe claw and a horizontal pin through the upper edge of the medal, with double scroll claw supports on the medal rim.
