Thi exquisite belt buckle made by Greg Thorne depicts a enigmatic design of the Loretto new mexico church LORETTO CHAPEL; SANTA FE

The Loretto Chapel in Santa Fe, once a Roman Catholic Church, is now used as a museum and wedding destination. This gorgeous chapel is steeped in lore and famous for its circular wooden staircase. Built by an unidentified man who showed up sometime between 1877 & 1881, his miraculous staircase has two 360-degree turns, no visible means of support, and wooden pegs instead of metal nails. The faithful believe that the mystery man was St. Joseph himself. Belt buckle measures 3\"⅜×2\"⅝ weight 74.7grams great addition to your collection Made by Greg Thorne Greg thorne a man who believes that our connection to the land is the source of all things good, and who is deeply committed to the values of hard work and community learned during time spent with the Navajo and Hopi back in the early seventies.

“In those days, I lived in Flagstaff, and I worked as a shell runner delivering shells in gunnery sacks from the ships that docked in San Pedro to the Pueblo of Santa Domingo in Arizona, also brought them rocks from the mines for their turquoise jewelry,” he says.

Greg’s Norwegian and Scottish ancestry is a vital element in his life

“I was a large white man, representing everything the Navajo could have resented, but they embraced me,” Greg adds. “I was entranced by their sense of community, their ceremonials, their celebration of the ‘great mystery’ of life, of the wind and water spirits, the animals, the sense that we are all relatives, that there was no religious dogma they felt the need to impose, just acceptance.
