• The image area measures 33 x26.8 cm [13" x 10½"] andfeatures a handsome gallery of flags, banners, and pennants of theUnited Statesof America.
• The official U.S. flag at that time had 45 stars.
• Other flags shown include the Union Jack, Colonial Flag,Bunker Hill Flag,and the "Original Stars and Stripes," also known as the Cowpens Flag.
• The slogans in the scrollwork at the bottom of thelithograph read:"One Flag, One Cause, One Country" and "United We Stand, Divided WeFall," wordswhich have a specialresonance today.
• Beneath the U.S. pennant and shield are portraits of two of thekey admirals of the U.S. Navy during the Spanish-American War: George Dewey and William Thomas Sampson.
• Text in the lower margin describes certain flagprotocols, including theflying of a flag at halfmast as a sign of mourning.
