POST 1942 WWII COLLINS NO. 18 ARMY AIR CORPS SURVIVAL KNIFE W/NO. 13 SHEATH: $425.00
POST 1942 WWII COLLINS NO. 18 ARMY AIR CORPS SUVIVAL KNIFE W/ COLLINS NO. 13 SHEATH. The first bail-out survival knife adopted by the U. S. Army Air Corps was the 1934 Collins Company's No. 18 "little machete." 5,000 of these were purchased and put into aircraft bail-out kits in 1934 and later. After the U. S. entered WWII and Marines and Army infantry began fighting at Guadalcanal and other islands in the southwest Pacific, they, and the later versions of the No. 18 became favored "combat knives" of the combat troops. As a result, most were robbed from the survival kits and sold or traded to Marines and soldiers. This is one of the No. 18's made during WWII, but after 1942. That is shown by its handle rivets which are steel instead of yellow brass. As shown by the photos, it has been used - probably by a Marine or soldier - but remains in very good to excellent condition. It comes with its original Collins No. 13 sheath. If you have any questions, please ask before buying or making an offer. Thanks.
