1830's Federal Round Shoulder Plate With Eagle For Sale

Federal round shoulder plate with eagle. Depicts a patriotic eagle and was used by the Federal army and the states. The shoulder plate is 2 1/2" in diameter following the Federal Regulation of 1826. Many were manufactured in the 1850s through the end of the Civil War as an ornamentation on the shoulder strap. Attributed to WH Smith of Brooklyn, New York. 1830s era brass buckle of impressed eagle retains the two iron hooks on the back. The eagle impression is strong with no wear. Excellent condition. 2 1/2" diameter.
