Dear Sir,

I was absent from home when your letters arrived. I had some idea of going to Winsted this day but calls of business have prevented. I will now say that I will endeavor to see you at your office on Thursday at present writer early in the forenoon. It will be important that we should dispatch our business so that I can return at evening. If the weather should be very inclement I may not come till Friday but I will not be deterred by any ordinary difficulty of that sort. How came the forlorn hope of running for the post of Secretary to be assigned to my uncle? I found Ralph, while he is ousted from his seat of candidate for Congress, occupied by him with so much dignity two years since.

Sir, I consider the honor of my native town involved in this affair and I am determined to look into the matter!

Yours truly,T. Smith
