This is an authentic, original late 19th-century Victorian cabinet card photograph featuring a charming studio portrait of a young boy and girl posing with their family dog. The children are beautifully dressed, with the boy wearing a patterned bow tie and the girl in a classic white dress. They are seated on a decorative rustic log prop, and a happy, long-eared spaniel-type dog sits prominently in the foreground.
The card is cleanly stamped at the bottom: "B. Etter, Extra Finish, Great Falls and Rochester, N.H." This text provides an excellent historical marker, as Great Falls, New Hampshire, was officially renamed Somersworth in 1893. This firmly places the production of this photograph in the late 1880s or very early 1890s.
The photograph retains excellent contrast, sharp details, and a beautiful sepia tone. The mount has light edge wear consistent with its age but remains sturdy and well-preserved. It is an excellent addition for collectors of antique vernacular photography, Victorian children's fashion, regional New Hampshire history, or antique pet and dog portraits.
