THE FOURTH STREET NATIONAL BANK — PHILADELPHIA
DATED JULY 6, 1893
An original late-19th-century banking document from The Fourth Street National Bank of Philadelphia, dated July 6, 1893.
The document is especially interesting because it preserves both the bank\'s professionally printed letterhead and the handwritten working notations associated with an actual banking transaction.
Printed across the top is:
THE FOURTH STREET NATIONAL BANK
PHILADELPHIA
The letterhead identifies Sidney F. Tyler as President and R. H. Rushton as Cashier. It also advertises the bank\'s substantial financial position at the time:
Capital — $1,500,000
Surplus — $900,000
The document contains numerous original handwritten entries, figures, calculations, accounting marks, crossed entries, and other period banking notations. These working marks are an important part of the piece and give the collector a glimpse into everyday banking and commercial recordkeeping during the 1890s.
The striking JUL 6 1893 date stamp remains clearly visible in pink/red ink.
This is not a modern reproduction. It is a period banking document showing age-related toning, fold lines, edge wear, small holes at the top, handwriting, markings, and other expected evidence of its approximately 133-year history. Please examine the photographs carefully, as they are an important part of the condition description.
