This image shows historic Dutch Flat in Placer County, CA in the late 1800s and early 1900s. Homes and the Methodist Episcopal Church are on hills above the main, dirt street, with the post office, trading post, and other buildings.
Dutch Flat was a major mining town during the late 1800s, with a train stop that was built to transport the valuable metal. Today it is a “semi-ghost” town with an estimated population of only 183 people in 2020. The town is registered as a California Historical Landmark, where many historic buildings still stand to draw tourists.
