Original 1922 Metropolitan Life Cook Book, printed and distributed by the Metropolitan Life Insurance Company for the use of its Industrial Policy-holders.
This more than 100-year-old cookbook provides a fascinating look at American home cooking and household food preparation in the early 20th century. It was produced by Metropolitan Life as a resource specifically for its industrial insurance policyholders.
The title page reads:
“Printed and Distributed by the Metropolitan Life Insurance Company — For the use of its Industrial Policy-holders — 1922.”
The original green and tan cover features the Metropolitan monogram. A previous owner wrote “Marie Stewart” and “17 yrs.” on the front cover.
Condition reflects its age and use. Covers have considerable toning/discoloration, staining, rubbing, creasing, edge/corner wear and other surface wear. Binding/staple areas show wear. Interior pages have age toning and occasional staining/marks but remain readable.
An interesting piece of 1920s culinary, household and Metropolitan Life Insurance Company history, with crossover appeal for collectors of antique cookbooks, insurance memorabilia and early American social history.
