Antique Walden Knife Co. Made in U.S.A. two-blade pocketknife with dark solid wood handles and unusual large triangular bail.
Knife measures approximately 3-3/8” closed. Main blade approximately 2-5/8”; secondary blade approximately 1-7/8”.
Both blades have good snap and are tight with no noticeable side-to-side or up-and-down play.
Tang is stamped WALDEN KNIFE CO / MADE IN U.S.A. The opposite side is deeply stamped 22671 in a different style of lettering. I have not determined the meaning of this number and am not representing it as a Walden model or pattern number.
An old linked chain is attached to the knife’s large triangular bail. The opposite end has an unusual formed-wire attachment that appears intended to hook over or around a button or similar fitting. The chain also carries a small tubular female socket-type key. Its exact purpose has not been identified.
I do not know whether the chain/key assembly was originally supplied with the knife. It was acquired with the knife and is being sold together exactly as found.
Knife shows considerable age and use, including blade patina, staining, scratches, sharpening wear and general wear. Wood handles remain attractive. Please use photographs as an important part of the condition description.
An interesting early American Walden working knife with an unusual tether/chain and key arrangement. No attempt has been made to polish or restore it.
