This Monsters on Machines 5-print set features five different original-art variations built around the legendary Caterpillar D9 crawler tractor, with each design reproduced as an 8 × 10 inch glossy portrait photo print.

Instead of getting five copies of essentially the same picture, the set takes the D9 through five dramatically different environments with a different crazed operator in every scene.

The common denominator is that massive yellow tracked machine, its huge steel dozer blade—and an operator who probably should not have been given the keys. 😂

1. Desert Construction Site – A gray-skinned mutant with a bright pink mohawk drives the D9 through a rugged desert jobsite surrounded by rocky mountains, earthmoving equipment and brilliant blue sky.

The Caterpillar D9 name has been associated with large crawler tractors for decades and has become one of the best-known designations in heavy construction equipment.

The basic formula is wonderfully straightforward: a powerful diesel crawler tractor, massive tracks for traction and weight distribution, and a large hydraulically controlled blade capable of moving tremendous quantities of earth, rock and other material.

But the D9 name represents far more than a single unchanged machine.

Caterpillar has produced multiple generations of D9 crawler tractors over the decades, with major changes in engines, transmissions, operator stations, hydraulics, undercarriages and electronic control systems along the way. D9 machines have worked in road construction, mining, quarrying, land clearing, large-scale earthmoving and other demanding applications around the world.

That long production history is exactly why I\'m not assigning a specific year, engine displacement or D9 suffix to this artwork. These illustrations identify the machine as a CAT D9, but they don\'t establish a particular production generation strongly enough to justify pretending otherwise.

For this set, the appeal is the machine itself: the unmistakable image of a giant yellow crawler tractor digging in and pushing an enormous blade full of material.
