Humberto Jesús Castro Garcíawas born inHavana, Cuba, in 1957. He is a prominentCuban painter and printmakerwho studied at theAcademy of Fine Arts San Alejandroand theSuperior Institute of Art (ISA)in Havana. In the 1980s he was an active member of theTaller Experimental de Gráfica (TEG)and the creative groupHexágono, key influences in Cuba’s art scene. Castro’s work spanspainting, drawing, printmaking, ceramics, and installations, earning international recognition and numerous awards. He has lived and worked in Paris and the United States, exhibiting throughout Europe, Asia, and the Americas. His work is held in major public and private collections, and he is regarded as one of the most original voices in contemporary Latin American art.
